Once through the gates of San Lameer Golf Club, it is apparent that the course hides it fearsome reputation behind a beautifully sculptured veneer. Its manicured grounds and paved roads mask the true nature of this testing course. Situated on the Natal South Coast with its year round sunshine makes this a major attraction as a sporting venue.

Don’t be misled by the balance of San Lameer's Yin and Yang gardens, this course with its many water features and magnetic bunkers is set to rattle the karma of the best golfers. The abundance of water features makes this a demanding course when the wind blows.

San Lameer Golf Club was built in the 1970's by Sanlam, the course was redesigned by Peter Matkovich and Dale Hayes about 8yrs ago and established as a top venue, hosting the South African Masters and various amateur tournaments. Water comes into play on all holes from the 9th through to the 18th, the 4th par 3 is not unlike the famous 12th at Augusta played across water to a narrow green. The 9th also a par 3 is played from an elevated tee to a green almost completely surrounded by water some 200 metres away.

Among the many fans of the San Lameer Golf Course is Mark McNulty, who owns a house on the 420 acre estate. Narrow fairways and man made water features, take their toll on the golfer who does not follow the line. A good course to have plenty of spare balls with you
