Durban Country Club rated in the worlds top 100 courses, situated just a stone throw away from the Indian Ocean, Durban CC is probably the only traditional South African golf course that can compete with other high profile layouts around the world. Durban Country Club has been host to the South African Open Golf Championship more than any other golf course in South Africa. Durban Country Club was listed as a top golf course in 1992, when ranking of Golf Courses in South Africa began, it has never been out of the top 50 golf course in the country.
Durban Country Club's 6150 metre par 72 golf course has narrow, cynoden fairways and country club greens with subtle slopes. Water comes into play on eight of the first nine holes and the bunkers are designed using the sod layer method. The first five holes are laid out over coastal dunes, this stretch of holes stands unchallenged as the best golf in Africa.
Gary Player won his first South African Open Championship on the Durban CC golf course in 1956, then went on to win the South African Open Golf Championship a further 12 times, his record of 13 South African Open wins is still unbeaten.
The par 5 third at Durban Country Club is good enough to be ranked among the world's greatest 18 holes by Golf Magazine USA. The only true test of a great golf hole is to play it yourself.
